The top of Washington:
Mount Rainier
Elevation:14,411 feet
Location:south-east of Seattle, WA
Date:06/08/2006
Day 1: Jun 5th
I finished my hiking in Olympic National Park and returned to Seattle. Post-dinner I meet the guides and other members of the Mount Rainier trip.
Day 2: Jun 6th

Drove to Mount Rainier National Park, registered and started hiking from the White River campground at 4,300 feet. Hit patches of snow immediately and then solid snow as we worked our way 3 miles to Glacier Basin and setup camp. Reviewed ice axe and snow travel skills.

Day 3: Jun 7th

Broke camp and headed further up Glacier Basin, across the Inter Glacier and over Curtis Ridge to reach Camp Schurman (9,460 feet). Rested and attempted to get some sleep before the big day.

Day 4: Jun 8th

Woke up at midnight and left camp by 2 am. 5,000 feet and 7.5 hours later we reached Rainier's summit (Columbia Crest, 14,411 feet). We rested in the crater out of the 40+ mph winds then spent 4 hours descending back to Camp Schurman.

Day 5: Jun 9th

Spent nearly 2 hours digging our tents out of the frozen snow, then made a rapid, 3 hour, descent all the way back to the White River campground.
